Natural formalism. The latest exhibition of the international photographer Kamran Adle (b. 1941) has provided an opportunity to review his career. Adle studied in Iran and France and has been working as a photographer for more than 35 years. His latest exhibition, held last winter in Tehran, was entitled "Potatoes". Using potatoes as his subjects and benefiting from the cooperation of the late sculptor Mohammad-'Ali Madadi, he has created sculptures out of potatoes which he has photographed.
The legacy of Qajar period photographers (Pirooz Sayyar). In December 1844, the French Jules Richard, who later became known in Iran as Monsieur Richard-Khan, first used a photographic camera in Iran to make pictures of the heir to the throne, Nasser-ed-Din-Mirza.
This industry rapidly developed in the country, as attested to by scores of thousands of pictures left behind from the 19th century in the Album-house of the Golestan Palace. Discussing the importance of these pictures for historic studies and researches, the author stresses the necessity of their preservation and scientific examination. In his opinion, a systematic examination of these pictures and printing albums of selected items among them will open a new chapter in the history of photography in the world, because they are more valuable than all the albums printed to the present about photography in Iran and its neighboring countries.
